Trade, finance, and economic administration across Accord territory.
Terran Accord Treasury

The Accord Credit, represented by the symbol ₳, is the official currency of the Terran Accord and the standard medium of exchange throughout Accord territory. It is used for wages, commercial transactions, taxation, government procurement, Accord Exchange trading, interstellar contracts, and ordinary purchases throughout the member worlds.
The monetary system is administered by the Ministry of the Treasury, which is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Credit, processing federal revenue, administering government accounts, settling public expenditures, and supporting the financial infrastructure of the Accord economy.
An Accord Credit has the same legal value regardless of where it is used. A Credit earned on Earth remains a Credit on a frontier colony, aboard a station, or at an Accord Exchange several systems away. Planetary governments and corporations may operate lawful local payment programs or private accounting systems, but they may not replace the Accord Credit as the recognized currency of the Terran economy.
The Accord Credit
The Credit is primarily a digital currency. Citizens ordinarily access their funds through their implanted DataChit, allowing purchases and transfers to be authenticated without requiring physical currency. Businesses, government institutions, and commercial operators maintain accounts capable of conducting transactions across the wider Accord financial network.
The system allows wages, purchases, taxes, Exchange settlements, freight payments, and government contracts to move between worlds without requiring separate planetary currencies or conversion between member systems.
This common monetary framework is one of the foundations of interstellar commerce. A freight captain does not need to exchange currency every time a vessel reaches another Accord world, and a business selling through the Accord Exchange can receive payment from customers several systems away using the same unit of account.
Core Credit Notation Standard
Accord law requires the position of the Core Credit symbol to communicate the semantic function of a monetary value. The placement of ₳ is therefore not typographic preference; it is a mandatory consumer-protection and financial-interface standard.
Balances, holdings, available funds, account values, wallet values, credits received, and other quantities of money possessed or available shall place the Core Credit symbol before the number. Examples include ₳250, ₳84.17, and +₳35.
Prices, charges, purchase amounts, fees, invoice amounts due, quoted compensation, and other monetary amounts requested in exchange for goods or services shall place the Core Credit symbol after the number. Examples include 250₳, 12₳, 75₳, and −35₳.
The distinction allows a citizen to determine the function of a monetary figure immediately, even when surrounding interface information is limited. ₳350 means that 350 Credits are held, available, or credited to an account. 350₳ means that 350 Credits constitute a price, charge, or amount payable.
Commercial interfaces, Accord Exchange listings, restaurant menus, vending systems, retail price tags, advertisements, invoices, procurement listings, and other price displays are required to use postfixed notation. Banks, DataChits, Treasury systems, payroll interfaces, account statements, financial dashboards, and other balance displays are required to use prefixed notation.
Digital systems operating within Accord jurisdiction are required to preserve this distinction wherever the Core Credit symbol is displayed. Deliberately presenting a price using balance notation, or a balance using price notation, in a manner capable of misleading a user constitutes a violation of Accord financial-display standards.
Treasury Administration
The Ministry of the Treasury manages the federal government's financial operations and maintains the monetary infrastructure supporting the Accord Credit. Treasury processes government revenue and expenditures, administers commercial tax payments, settles government procurement contracts, and maintains financial records associated with federal institutions.
The Ministry also coordinates with the Ministry of Commerce regarding the Accord Exchange and Commercial Registry. Commercial taxes, procurement payments, government contracts, and other federal transactions ultimately pass through Treasury systems.
Specific details concerning Treasury monetary operations are not generally published. The Ministry releases sufficient information for businesses, planetary governments, and citizens to conduct commerce but retains substantial discretion regarding the internal administration of the currency.
Monetary Supply
The total number of Accord Credits in circulation is not publicly disclosed.
Treasury does not maintain a public real-time accounting of the total monetary supply, nor does the government provide citizens or commercial institutions with unrestricted access to the internal mechanisms used to manage circulation.
This policy has existed for much of the modern Accord monetary system. Public economic reporting instead concentrates on market conditions, commercial activity, employment, production, trade, and the purchasing behavior of the Credit.
Questions concerning the precise volume of currency in circulation, Treasury reserve policy, and certain other monetary operations fall outside ordinary public financial disclosure.
Commercial Transactions
Businesses registered through the Accord Commercial Registry conduct transactions in Credits and may maintain commercial accounts for payroll, procurement, Exchange trading, freight contracts, and other business activity.
Government procurement is likewise denominated in Credits. Once a contract is completed and accepted, Treasury systems authorize payment to the appropriate commercial account. Businesses may then use those funds for wages, materials, transportation, expansion, taxation, or other lawful purposes.
The common currency allows government spending to move directly into the wider economy without requiring separate ministry currencies or specialized payment instruments.
Planetary and Corporate Currency
Planetary governments may maintain accounting systems appropriate to their own administration, and corporations may offer private payment programs, benefits, or internal credits where permitted by law. Such systems do not supersede the Accord Credit.
Employees must remain capable of receiving lawful compensation in recognized Accord currency, and access to essential commerce cannot be conditioned entirely upon participation in a private corporate currency.
This requirement is particularly important on corporate-dominated worlds, where control over employment, housing, transportation, and retail infrastructure could otherwise allow a single corporation to create a closed economy outside the wider Accord market.
The Accord Exchange and Accord Credit ensure that citizens remain connected to the federal commercial system regardless of the economic structure of the world on which they live.
Financial Stability
The Ministry of the Treasury is responsible for maintaining confidence in the Accord Credit and continuity of the financial system during both ordinary economic conditions and periods of disruption.
Treasury policy is deliberately insulated from short-term commercial and political pressures. Not every internal financial assessment, reserve calculation, monetary intervention, or economic contingency is released through public StarNet services.
Citizens and businesses are therefore expected to judge the Credit primarily through its practical function within the economy: its purchasing power, acceptance throughout Accord territory, and continued use in government and commercial transactions.
The Accord Credit exists to provide a common financial language across an interstellar civilization. Whether a citizen is purchasing a meal, a corporation is acquiring millions of tonnes of industrial material, or the government is paying for construction of a new starport, the same currency connects those transactions across the worlds of the Terran Accord.
