DEFENSE
The armed forces, commands, and defense posture safeguarding Accord territory.
War Department
The entire military might of the Terran Accord is built around a single overriding principle: the protection and survival of humanity. Fleets, warships, armies, installations, and even entire military commands are ultimately expendable when measured against the civilian populations they exist to defend. The Accord will burn fleets, sacrifice capital ships, and commit entire armies to battles they are not expected to survive if doing so purchases a threatened colony the hours necessary to evacuate its population. A military defeat that preserves millions of human lives may therefore be regarded as a strategic success, while a victory purchased through the abandonment of an Accord population may be considered an unacceptable failure.
This principle shapes Terran Accord doctrine from the Admiralty Board down to individual commanders. Military personnel are expected to understand that their ships and formations are instruments of humanity's defense rather than ends unto themselves. When evacuation, reinforcement, or rescue remains possible, the Accord's forces are expected to hold for as long as they can meaningfully buy time. Retreat may preserve military strength, but preservation of military strength is secondary when its expenditure can preserve humanity. The fleet exists so the colony survives; the colony does not exist so the fleet survives.
Directory
16 ENTRIESAn overview of the Accord Navy, its command structure, and its role in safeguarding Accord territory.
The Terran Accord Intelligence Directorate, or TAID, is the Accord’s unified intelligence and national security service, consolidating foreign, military, signals, homeland security, and counterintelligence functions into a single organization. TAID identifies and analyzes threats across Accord and foreign space, supports military and law enforcement operations, and exercises extraordinary authority in national security matters, including compulsory questioning where the ordinary protection against self-incrimination does not apply.
The Terran Accord Armed Forces consist of the Navy, Army, Marines, Starfighter Corps, and Civil Defense Corps, forming a unified defense structure capable of operating from interstellar space to planetary battlefields. Each branch maintains a specialized role while working jointly to defend Accord territory, protect its worlds and hyperlanes, defeat hostile forces, and support planetary defense during war and major emergencies.
The Terran Accord Army is the Accord’s primary ground warfare service, responsible for planetary defense, sustained surface campaigns, and holding territory during major conflicts. Its infantry, armor, artillery, aviation, engineering, and logistics forces provide the long-term combat power necessary to defend or retake worlds alongside the Navy, Marines, and Civil Defense Corps.
The Terran Accord Starfighter Corps is the aerospace combat service responsible for fighter superiority, interception, fleet defense, escort, reconnaissance, and bomber strike operations. Operating from Navy carriers and planetary bases, its pilots and squadrons provide rapid combat support across space, orbital, and atmospheric environments while working alongside the Navy, Army, and Marines.
The Terran Accord Marines are the expeditionary assault force of the Armed Forces, specializing in rapid deployment, planetary assault, ship and station boarding, and seizure of critical objectives. Operating closely with the Navy and Starfighter Corps, Marines establish the footholds necessary for larger Army deployments while providing fleets with immediate ground combat and boarding capability.
The Terran Accord Civil Defense Corps provides territorial defense, emergency response, and rapid mobilization across Accord worlds. Embedded within the communities they protect, Civil Defense units safeguard critical infrastructure, support planetary authorities during disasters, reinforce the Army during invasions, and ensure trained military personnel are already present when a crisis begins.
The Terran Accord Special Operations Command (SpecOps) is a joint military force drawn from the Navy, Army, Marines, and Starfighter Corps to conduct the Accord’s highest-risk and most specialized operations. Its units undergo exceptionally demanding training with high attrition and work closely with TAID, with most teams supported by an assigned TAID handler and intelligence analysis team for operational planning, threat assessment, and intelligence support.
The Terran Accord Military Logistics Command sustains deployed forces by moving food, medical supplies, ammunition, replacement equipment, fabrication materials, vehicle and Starfighter fuel, spare parts, and personnel throughout Accord territory. Through replenishment vessels, military transports, forward depots, and specialized support ships, Logistics Command ensures Terran forces can remain operational through prolonged campaigns regardless of distance from their home worlds.
The Terran Accord Military Engineering Command provides the construction, repair, fortification, recovery, and infrastructure capabilities required to sustain military operations. Working alongside combat forces and Logistics Command, its engineers establish forward bases, restore captured starports, repair damaged infrastructure, recover military equipment, construct defenses, and ensure Accord forces can continue operating even when war or disaster has devastated the environment around them.
The Terran Accord Strategic Defense & Mobilization Command prepares the Accord for large-scale and existential conflict by coordinating military readiness, mobilization, industrial capacity, strategic infrastructure, and continuity of government. It also maintains custody of the Accord’s HELLSTRIKE strategic missiles and specialized carrier vessels assigned to the Second Peter Protocol, ensuring the Accord retains a final strategic response should its continued existence ever be threatened.
The Terran Accord Military Personnel Command administers the careers and service records of Armed Forces personnel from enlistment or commissioning through retirement or separation. It manages assignments, occupational specialties, qualifications, transfers, promotions, decorations, and personnel records while preserving each service member’s individual branch identity across joint and specialized assignments.
The Terran Accord military justice system maintains discipline, obedience, and accountability throughout the Armed Forces. Its protections governing the treatment of persons apply to humans. During wartime, those protections do not extend to nonhuman species; military justice governs the conduct of Terran personnel toward the chain of command and humanity, not offenses committed against nonhuman enemies.
The Terran Accord Military Education & Training Command transforms civilians into service members capable of surviving the physical, psychological, and technical demands of interstellar warfare. Training is deliberately hard, exhausting, and unforgiving, emphasizing combat readiness, discipline, technical competence, and performance under extreme stress before personnel advance into specialized branch training.
The Terran Accord Ministry of Veterans Affairs provides lifelong support to those who served in the Armed Forces, including medical care, disability compensation, rehabilitation, pensions, education, employment assistance, housing support, and survivor benefits. Accord doctrine holds that military service creates a continuing obligation between the state and the people who defended it, particularly those who return wounded or permanently changed by war.
